Our team at Franklin Savings Bank believes in taking any opportunity to support our local business owners. Shopping small businesses keeps our local economy healthy, which benefits everyone in our communities.
With Halloween a few short weeks away, we thought it made sense to showcase some of NH’s top candy stores. Depending on where you live, you likely have one not far from you. The following are some of our favorites…
Check out some homegrown destinations for delicious Halloween treats.
Perhaps more than the confections themselves, candy stores are fun to visit because they represent a whimsical innocence that most of us tend to forget as we keep up with our daily demands and responsibilities. The upcoming Halloween festivities give us a chance to shop for candy and rekindle that childlike enthusiasm that makes this time of year so fun.
So, without further delay, check out a few of our favorite NH candy shops. We’ve organized our list according to alphabetical geographic location. Scan the list for the one closest to you!
Granite State Candy Shoppe, Concord, NH
Located on Warren Street, the Granite State Candy Shoppe has been delighting customers with its homemade chocolate, as well as a variety of candies and nuts since 1927. Founded by Peter Bart, who immigrated from Greece in 1909, this candy store continues to feature his homemade recipes and remains a family business, now run by Peter’s grandsons, Mike and Jeff. Enjoy a little bit of NH history as you browse their extensive selection of sweets. Or, order online!
Lickee’s & Chewy’s Candies and Creamery, Dover, NH
Our Franklin Savings Bank customers who served in the military might recognize how Lickee’s & Chewy’s Candies and Creamery got its name. An old military term, “lickies and chewies” refers to candy, something that store owner and veteran Chris Guerrette learned during his 2008-2009 deployment to Afghanistan.
Featuring chocolate and candies sourced locally and from all over the world, Lickees & Chewy’s also recently launched its homemade chocolate, Ogre chocolate, a nod to Guerrette’s love of science fiction. Stop in for a dizzying selection of sweets and scope out store mascots, Lickee, a knight, and Chewy, a dragon, both of who hail from the Kingdom of Caramelot. What better way to get in the spirit of Halloween than in a fantastical place surrounded by locally sourced and imported candies of all kinds!
Van Otis Chocolates, Manchester, NH
A true Manchester landmark, Van Otis Chocolates offers an impressive selection of Halloween sweets, from classic candy corn to upscale caramel apples and homemade, fall-themed chocolates. “Making life a little sweeter since 1935” Van Otis has also offered tours of its chocolate factory, along with classes like the upcoming Hand Rolled Truffle Class and Chocolate Happy Hour. Load up on Halloween treats by stopping at the shop located on Elm Street or by ordering online. Residents in and around Wolfeboro, NH can also take advantage of Van Otis’ second shop, which recently opened its doors on South Main Street.
Sweetz & More, Tilton, NH
Similarly situated, this time in Tilton’s Tanger Outlets, Sweetz is NH’s largest candy shop and naturally boasts an impressive inventory of candies; in fact, one reviewer raves, “This place is awesome! They have every candy imaginable!” Another fan wrote, “Thank you Sweetz for supplying all the candy we could dream of for our trick or treat!”
We hope you feel inspired to shop some of these local gems for all your candy cravings this season! In the meantime, contact us for all your banking needs. No tricks! Just trustworthy expertise you can count on.
