As we continue to come out of the COVID-19 crisis, travel is resuming throughout most of the country. People are planning long overdue trips to see friends and family and check out some sites along the way.
Of course, for many of us, our families include pets. For that reason, we like to include our pets on our travel adventures. Not too long ago, it was difficult to imagine finding adequate accommodations that would satisfy both two- and four-legged guests. But, as the song goes, “the times they are a-changin,” and have been for quite a while.
We’ve got some local suggestions for pet-friendly hotels in NH that you (and Rover) simply should not miss this summer! Bringing your fur baby with you on fun trips presents some serious benefits, including cost savings compared to boarding or hiring a dog sitter.
Have Pets, Will Travel!
Consider this: an estimated 78% of Americans travel with their pets every year. In fact, major airlines have become more pet-friendly, especially towards dogs, and some even allow dogs to fly in the cabin with their humans, rather than sit solo in the plane’s hold.
You might be thinking, that’s great, but where do we stay when we arrive at our destination? Practically anywhere you want!
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), approximately 75% of luxury, mid-scale and economy hotels allow pets. Some, like Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn, are so welcoming to pets and pet owners that they do not charge a pet fee.
Speaking of fees, traveling with your pets might be the more affordable option, compared to paying for professional services like boarding or pet sitting. Currently, it costs between $25-$85 per night, averaging $40. Daycare averages $25 for a full day; $15 for a half day. Depending on how long you intend to stay away and whether you have access to a pet-friendly (better yet, pet fee-free) hotel accommodation, it might be more cost-effective to pack your pet and make some travel memories together!
Live Free and Lodge at these Pet-Friendly Hotels
Whether the coast is calling your name, you’re eager to escape to the Lakes Region or make a move towards NH’s beautiful mountain ranges, there are plenty of pet-friendly hotels throughout the state for your next trip. The pet fees associated with these accommodations vary; the Motel 6 in Portsmouth invites guests to bring two pets of any size at no additional fee. However, the Residence Inn by Marriott in North Conway charges $20 per night for two pets of any size.
Just as you check and compare rates before your hotel stay, you should also always check the pet fee and any other restrictions or guidelines before booking your trip!
